SHAMIMA MARTIN
‘NUMBER 4’

Movement | 3 min 25 seconds | 2023

‘I choose to be less visible now’

Shamima comes to Enfield to be creative. She has lived in London since she moved here from Mumbai (then, Bombay) in 1975. She has a wealth of lived experience, beautifully captured in the expression of the tiny details of everyday experiences.

Combining movement and voice over, Shamima reflects on what being ‘seen’ as meant to her over time. Her perspective celebrates the power of the introvert and the observer, and the feeling of lightness and possibility that still exists in later life.

Shamima is a long term member and creative contributor to the fantastic intergenerational ‘Space Between Us' Community Programme at Chickenshed in Enfield.

R VOICES

‘OUR HOME’

CHOIR | 5 mins | 2023

‘From everywhere we roam…’

R voices perform an original composition by their Musical Director Richard Forbes.

The song lyrics in this piece were created out of perspectives, memories and feelings from community members currently living across Enfield. The result is a song that explores the wide range of lived experiences that make up the population of the borough, threaded together by the common ground of having chosen Enfield as home.

This group of performers from R Voices represent a wider inclusive community of 150+ singers who come together as a choir, led by Richard Forbes, for the joy and love of music and song.

Another video for OUR HOME will be released later in the summer...

WRITE2SPEAK

UNSPOKEN  /  VAST

SPOKEN WORD | 3 min  25 seconds | 2023

As collaborative duo, Write2Speak champion the use of spoken word poetry as an exciting mode of expression for everyone. Tyler grew up in Edmonton and Yossi in neighbouring Barnet, and the pair met in the middle, studying at Chickenshed.

In these films, poetic words and playful visuals takes the viewer right into the heart of the theme of ‘seen’, exploring two points of view on how we choose to be visible or invisible, how it can define our experience of the world and how reaches beyond the human experience into our connection with the natural world.
