HOW MAKING STORIES IN 360 WORKS

SEEN is a 360 storytelling project with collaboration, innovation and human experience at its core.

We work with communities and world class theatre artists to bring short stories to life using a variety of creative devising tools; poetry, movement, monologue, visual art and music.

SEEN puts audiences at the centre of the performance as the stories are presented on 360 film.

STORY COLLECTION and RESEARCH

First of all, we meet with members of the community. We discuss stories from the area that may be of local, national and international interest. We run workshops, conduct interviews, engage with existing local groups and explore the areas where we will be making and creating the films.

We have found exciting stories in all sorts of places including clubs, pubs, charity meetings, community centres, sports events, art galleries and more.

Once we have found someone who would like to share their story - we commission them to work with our team to refine their unique perspective on the theme of the project. If we are working with a partner organisation or group, we will identify the next creative steps to begin to bring their ideas to life.

For Enfield the theme was 'BEING SEEN' and for BARROW IN FURNESS it was 'FUTURE DREAMS'.

MAKING/DEVISING

Once we have agreed a creative vision for the story, we set about planning the 360 film. At this stage we may expand the team to bring in more performers and creatives such as choreographers, composers and musicians. We always aim to employ local artists where possible, especially if the aim of the project is to highlight voices from a specific area.

FILMING

Once the story is ready to capture, we book/organise local locations for a day of filming. We then capture the short film with our 360 degree cameras. So far our projects have been filmed in cafes, living rooms, community centres, english heritage sights, on nature reserves, on the beach, in a town hall and in theatre studio spaces. Each environment poses a unique set of possibilities and challenges when working on 360 film.

We then edit the film, developing  the story telling elements in post production. A 360 edit process is very layered and technical! Fun Fact - our most recent project required 5TB of data space!

We then share it for free via a headset available at pop-up events and online.
